Welcome to the Studio.

I'm deep in the series of mixed-media portraits—what I call story mosaics—honoring iconic women whose legacies deserve to be remembered and celebrated for their worldly contributions. Please enjoy the details, the hidden history, and the inspirations behind my latest piece.

ABOUT THE WORK

Inspired by Jane’s early fascination with Tarzan and Dr. Doolittle, this richly detailed mosaic captures her as a young woman, binoculars in hand, surrounded by a lush jungle made entirely of vintage buttons, toys, and found materials.

The frame is alive with playful monkeys, miniature animals, and even a tiny Tarzan book—an homage to the stories that first sparked her fascination with the world.

“THE
GREATEST THREAT TO OUR PLANET IS APATHY.”

Dr. Jane Goodall

"I had had a marvelous teacher in animal behavior throughout my childhood—my dog, Rusty," she recalls.

Her beloved companion taught her that animals have personalities and even emotions, contrary to what scientists believed in the 1950s.

Most people see Dr. Jane Goodall as she is now, gray-haired, and full of wisdom.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about the young woman who started it all.

This portrait piece was inspired by her 1963 cover of Time Magazine.

I wanted to capture Jane as a groundbreaking young scientist.

Dr. Jane Goodall has spent six decades advocating for conservation which includes both wildlife and local communities. She rewrote what was possible in the field of animal behavior, inspiring generations, and advancing both animal welfare and environmental conservation on a global scale.

UPDATES FROM THE ARTIST

In May, I visited the legendary Brimfield Flea Market, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! Brimfield is America's oldest outdoor antique market, dating back to 1959. Three times each year, thousands of vendors and treasure hunters descend upon this charming Massachusetts town, turning it into an antiquing paradise.

The highlight of my trip? Running into Rob Wolfe from American Pickers—what an incredibly fun surprise!

Of course, I didn't leave empty-handed. My haul included:

  • A couple figurines of caricatures reading books

  • And yes, that coveted Griswold cast iron pan you see in my hand

Stay tuned as these newfound gems become part of upcoming pieces!

I’m excited to continue sharing the evolution of my work with you, both the stories behind the featured individuals and the vintage treasures I use to bring them to life.

I currently have limited availability for new commissions. If you'd like to collaborate on a custom piece, now’s the perfect time. Simply reply to this email for us to explore the possibility.

Best,
Stephanie
